South Street

Weather

The weather in Philadelphia is seasonal. During the summer, it’s very humid. Usually, we don’t have a lot of snow, and winters aren’t extremely cold. Tree leaves start changing colors in mid-October and the signs of spring can be seen in April.

About Declaration of Independence

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress, met in Philadelphia in the Independence Hall. They approved the Declaration of Independence. It declared the freedom and independence of the 13 American colonies from England.

History

Valley Forge had a six month encampment of the Continental Army of the United States of America under the command of General George Washington, a few miles from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
There wasn’t a battle from December 19, 1777 to June 19, 1778, however, a fight against the elements and low morale were overcome on this sacred ground.

Visit the Bell

You can visit the Liberty Bell from the hours 9am - 5pm. There are extended hours in the summer. The bell is always visible in glass. It’s one of our national symbols for freedom.
